Constricted feeling during fire test in Belgium

« Back

As usual, Brakel organised an annual client day, linked to a ‘live fire test‘ in Louvain le Neuve (Belgium). On 1 July 2015, Brakel received a large number of partners from 9 different countries, each with their own business contacts/clients, including fire engineers and end clients.

Product development and CFD

The day started with an extensive guided tour of the production facility, followed by an overview of new product developments. In addition, insight was provided into how Brakel partners can support projects by using the CFD model.

Test: Clearly demonstrated the danger of smoke produced by fire

The fire test was carried out successfully that afternoon in a completely renovated test building. Without the application of smoke and heat extraction, visibility is reduced to zero within 3 minutes in the case of fire. During the test using RWA, the desired smoke-free layer is created, thereby keeping the escape route visible.

A fantastic experience for all participants. The clearly shows how fast a fire, and smoke in particular, can develop in reality. This practical situation makes it clearer than ever that RWA is not just an expense, but also badly needed in order to be able to safely evacuate a building during a fire.
